Heavenly Father, I’m thankful that you have always been pursuing me even when I resisted or was unaware. I’m thankful that you are faithful even when I am not, and that you desire an expanding relationship with me. I’m thankful that I can share with you, and expose my deepest thoughts and desires, good and bad, and I get the same loving, open arms regardless of what I tell you or how long it has been since our last conversation. I am thankful for the spirit of truth you lay on our hearts to guide and nudge us when we need a little reminder. I’m thankful for living through the tough times and how they have all shaped me for the events of today and the plans you have laid out for tomorrow. I’m thankful for the blessing of friendship and relationship, and the richness and color it provides in our lives. I’m thankful for the freedoms we enjoy as a sovereign nation, which allow us the chance, if we are bold enough to take it, to exercise our gifts and then stand apart from our efforts and evaluate our success or failure and give it another try if we want to improve our mark. I’m thankful for family and how it doesn’t have to be just the one that is genetically related. I’m thankful for people who care enough to inconvenience themselves for a worthy cause, and for the motivation to be better when we are left uninspired by the selfish few. I’m thankful for traditions and the spice and familiarity that they bring to our lives. I’m thankful for memories of the past and the smiles our recollections bring to our face. I’m thankful for love, as it is described in 1Corinthians 13 and how it is a remedy for all our personal and societal ills.
It is unlikely that all our thanks can be recorded, but we are grateful for a time of year and a holiday that encourages us to reflect on what we are truly thankful for. Praise You who allows it all. –Amen!
